Please note the following:

  1. The reduction of homocysteine is dose related.
  2. Folic Acid has the major therapeutic effect but is more effective in combination with B6, B12 and Betaine.
  3. Adequate B12 needs to be provided to reduce the risk of masking pernicious anemia and as a methyl-donor.
  4. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) reduces homocysteine by an independent mechanism and is dose dependent.
  5. Betaine is essential as a methyl donor in converting homocysteine to methionine. In combination with Folic Acid, B6 and B12 Betaine appears to enhance their effectiveness.
  6. Aspirin is added to decrease C-Reactive Protein and inhibit thromboxan.

Products marketed directly to patients contain:

  1. Choline, even in large doses, probably has no effect on serum homocysteine levels.
  2. Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) is added in a large enough dose to change the patient’s urine to bright yellow – making the patient believe that the product is "really working".
